Off to Work

Yesterday I thought... I should go in kimono to my job (for ones) Always a little too scared/embarrasses to do so I never did (unless it was a festival day) But now I thought, why not?
Not too long ago I dressed a sweet teen in a kimono she wanted at the store and she said, "I keep it on".
So why should I not be as brave? Yes, bravery is with teens, and teens are expected to look "different" On the other hand I told her "in this city the staring is next to nothing, just go ahead"
Which really is true, over here people don’t stare, they might cast a second look, but that’s really it.
I must admit, I feel rather hot now ^_^
The sun is shining and it’s warm, I feel a little stupid for not leaving the under wears. But a well.

I chose this striped kimono beause it´s closest in colours I would wear to the store. And it’s a synthetic hitoe, the store being very dusty and it was raining when I woke up, I didn’t want to risk fine silk...
The kimono is too short for an ohasori, sadly but there is a tiny one underneath the obi! hihi. Obi choosing was hard, I wanted hitoe and black would have been best (I thought) but surprise surprise I have none. So I went for very dark blue and added a red obi jime and my favourite white and red obi age. Which wasn’t needed since I wear the clamshell bow, but well, wanting some touches of red...

Then zori/geta choice, first I tried black zori whit red hanao and then black geta with blue hanao, which I kept on to have some of the obi and accessories repeated... It’s fun, my neighbour at work already complimented me, so that’s a good start.
Oh... and while I was on my bike (which is a hassle really) two Japanese ladies giggled at me... hihi.

Beautiful set you have there! And well, why don't you wear kimono when you work in a Japanese antique shop? You are right about the city there, the staring isn't as much as it is here in my neighbourhood.
By the way, I won those 2 kimono! I also bought the light purple/pink (choice B if I remember correctly) obi, a salmon-colored nagoya, the obi that I had in mind for the brown kimono and a white hanhaba with little flowers in different kinds of brown, also for the brown kimono.

Can't wait to get it in the mail ^_^

haha thank you, yes that0s what everybody keeps telling me, you work in a Japanese antique store.... eyes raised.

Great you won both! And all the obi, how exiting it is to wait for packages! And I know she shippes quickly so you will have them soon. I can't wait for the pictures!

Was any of them hitoe? You'll be a bit cooler with it. Not much though

All obi, except the brown one, I order at Ichiroya, and are also fast shippers! I don't think any are hitoe. At the forums they told me that I should buy hitoe ones, but I couldn't find them and I really liked the first ones I chose. So now I ordered 2 obis for each kimono! Hope they all match, and if not then maybe I can find a different home for them ^_^
